Yesterday we covered budget GPS; today lets bump things up a little and look at the next tier. All the models we look at here have a wide screen and text-to-speech, meaning it will say something like “in one-half mile, turn left on Oak Street,” rather than just “in one-half mile, turn left.”
- Garmin nuvi 255W – Adds nice features like speed limit display, tracklog display (the option of recording and showing where you’ve been), easy to access recent cities and streets from search menus, and more. Currently about $220, but we may see it discounted even more during the holiday shopping season.
- Garmin nuvi 265WT (pictured above) – Adds lifetime traffic and Bluetooth for hands free cell phone use to the 255W’s feature set. Currently around $265.
- TomTom XL 330–S – The TomTom offers more options for customization than the Garmin nuvi series. Currently about $250.
All links go to my reviews, where you’ll find detailed information, price comparisons and additional resources. For great prices, keep an eye on my GPS Deals site, where I’ll be posting holiday deals from Black Friday until the end of the year.
